Hey everybody, welcome to the self employed nerd, this is Rochelle, your host, as always.
And I have a few nice things going on for you this week.
So coming up in this episode, I just want to talk to you a little bit about staying on top of yourself. You don't have to be perfect all the time, and I have some encouraging words for you in case, you're putting a little too much... like, EXCESSIVE pressure on yourself. So stay tuned for that.
Coming up, we also are talking about the Facebook group, where I'm basically opening it for real for real. And I want you to join us, because... let's face it, there are a lot of groups out there and a lot of them are not very helpful.
And so this group that I'm creating is a continuation of an older group that I had before. And I just want to make sure that you know that you have access to me.
Now, of course, this isn't like free for all and "come in and promote your stuff and don't talk to anybody unless you have something to sell." This is not what that's about.
This is about you being honest about where you are on your business journey and to help you just feel supported and feel like there are options for you. Because I feel like that's where we can get kind of hung up. We're like, I have to do it a certain way. I have to be this kind of business owner. I have to keep going even if this feels like it's slowly killing me every day that I finally figure out how make time and find an hour writing a blog.
Your business shouldn't feel like that.
And so I'm hoping to demonstrate for you that there are lots of ways that you can approach your workload. Maybe you can even do LESS work and reach more people and have a little bit of fun, too! Okay, so I'm going to be telling you about that later.
Also an opportunity for some free business coaching from me, because I've learned that I'm missing just the COACHING aspect. A lot of my students have been with me for a long time, And so they don't need as much of my feedback, which is wonderful, right?
Like, what a terrible thing to where people already feel supported. They have their direction they're going off. And, you know, that's great and all but I miss coaching, and so I have an opportunity for you in that area, for free. So stick around and listen for that opportunity.
And then finally, I'm going to close up with another opportunity, basically, for you to have a conversation with me and possibly even show up on this podcast!
So if you're just getting yourself out there, you need some help some hand holding. And I'm kind of like a promotional geek about this kind of stuff. Like if there's something that's launching, then I want to know what's happening before I want to know what's happening during I want to know what's happening after and then like, going, "Yay, everybody, go go go!" You know?
Let's get this wonderful message out there. And so I figure, why not have people on the show to talk about your wonderful businesses and how geeky you are and how you love what you do in a way that's not that's kind of like not the typical nine to five route. Let's just get you some exposure. Let's get you used to being visible and having other people shout your praises on the internet. I
would like that to do that for you. And that's coming up.
So! Your weekly uplift, in case, you don't follow me on Instagram.
By the way, my handle is @rochellesanch. And you can go and follow me there.
And let me know that you found out about me through the podcast, but I have this I have a message for you. And this is mostly because I know that a lot of us can get discouraged and we can get tired. And we're like, "You know what, if it was going to happen, it would have happened by now. I'd be rich, I'd be rolling in it. I'd be like, totally successful."
And you know, singing that that billionaire song from Bruno Mars and Travis... what's his name? I forgot his name.
But remember when we didn't no one knew who Bruno Mars was? And we were like, I love that billionaire song.
Like, maybe you're feeling like that, like, maybe you're not doing it right. And it would have happened by now.
But you know what?
It will still happen, and you need to stick with it. So I'm going to read you this caption from a post that I put up, because I want you to keep it in mind. And remember that no one's perfect, and that you have the support that you need.
Okay, so here we go.
So I took some time this week to simmer down, I learned that apparently worry-prone people like me will get get will worry even when things are going great, (which is me.) And I just want to know if you ever do that.
So you probably have had a few good moments in your business this past week.
And I just want to say that it's OKAY to relish them.
You also may have had some rough patches, like awkward confrontations, angry people misinterpreting things, loved ones misunderstanding, meaning well, but kind of making things worse, if you're honest about it.
Or the worst, in my opinion: a general lowering of confidence. Or you know, alower feeling of worthiness in yourself. And so, my positive message to you is this, if you don't have anyone in your life to remind you: you will be okay.
It's okay to be overwhelmed. It's okay to be tired. It's okay to have low moments. It's also okay not to necessarily want to be rid of those moments immediately as soon as possible. Now! Now! Now!
And I am one of those people who has tried to get rid of any kind of discomfort as fast as possible. And it turns out that you really just have to appreciate those moments. And you're learning to appreciate yourself in every moment of this journey.
So good job to you!
Remember to rest, and keep going.
So how'd you like it? I hope that you liked it! If you want to comment on that particular post on Instagram, then I hope that you'll come and follow me and let me know that you find these kinds of messages encouraging.
I don't know about you, but like my Instagram feed... my app is the most positive thing like in the world.
I have successfully unfollowed all these people who use social media to rant and say negative things and just get things off their chest. So I stopped following all those people.
As soon as anyone posts anything that's like, before and after photo, you know, like in the fitness realm, then I unfollow them. it's not like I want people to stop losing weight, you know... although that would be pretty sweet if we would all just like let go of the weight loss industry.
But I'm really pro #bodypositive. And it has helped me so much more than any diet or weight loss regime or supplement or anything that I've done.
And I've done a lot and I have like fluctuated in weight. But I feel it's really really weird, you guys... like this is totally not business related.
But thanks to this body positive movement, and just being being okay with how I'm shaped and digging up all those like mental barriers and issues that I had.
And the reasons why I think that it's, you know, I thought for so long that it was just not okay to be the plus size person in the room.
I learned and I'm like, so proud of myself for this. So proud!
But I actually sat down and I was like, "Oh my gosh, I think my tummy is cute!"
Like, you know how (some of you might not understand this, but) when you sit down and you can like feel your tummy just going over like your pants, and you can feel it and it's out there.
And it's just like, it's there, right? And then in the past, I've always been like, "This is terrible. And I need to lose weight. And I'm a pig and a slob."
And then now just thanks to my wonderful feed of Instagram inspiration, I'm like, "Oh my gosh, I think I'm cute!"
And it really feels nice.
So anyway, that was a very long winded way of saying that you can curate your Instagram feed. And when I say feed, I mean like, you know the stuff that shows up. You can curate it so that everything every time that you go on to social media, you actually feel better about yourself.
And so that's why I like Instagram.
That's why if you're following my stories, then I'm always like posting positive things and just trying to share the good things in the world and share these positive thoughts with people because goodness knows we have decades already.
And the internet hasn't even been around that long, right? I mean, come on.
But we already have decades of like bad messaging, right?
Just like negative things meant to make you feel "less than" so that you'll buy things and all of that.
So anyway, that's my rant, make sure that you're following me on Instagram, make sure that you're unfollowing people who make you feel kind of worthless, or like you need to work or you're missing something.
It's so worth it. I really like being on Instagram now.
And it's actually it's distracting, just like before, but at least when it's distracting then I feel better about myself when I stop, compared to before, when I was getting sucked into the vortex and I ended up feeling bad about myself in addition to behind in my work, if that makes sense.
So anyway, Instagram. @rochellesanch. Let me know.
Okay, we're on to the next thing, which is the Facebook group.
So I have a Facebook group that's supposed to go along with this podcast, and I want to invite you to it, because I miss you.
And I'm new to this podcasting world. And so I'm still figuring it out. And if you've been listening to all the episodes, then you know this because every episode is different, because "Rochelle can't make up her mind."
But the point is this: I would like you to join me in the Facebook group so that we can talk about all the things that come up, when you're trying.
You're on this journey of being self employed, trying to be self employed, trying to get back to self employed, and trying to live that like freedom lifestyle, that we're all aiming for, right?
And so like, it's not pretty, and there are certain ways to go about it.
And there are certain ways to make the process a lot easier for yourself.
But I want to help you with that.
So join the Facebook group, you can go to see it in the show notes by going to www.TheSelfEmployedNerd.com, and you'll see a link there to join the group.
And so what I have planned are some co working sessions. So if you have a certain time of the week that you would like to meet up with me, and we can just like being a Zoom Room and a virtual room and work on our stuff together. And just be like what are you working on, let's work on it for an hour, and then actually get it done, then we're going to be doing that.
I'm also going to be offering some free business coaching calls.
And then I also want to kind of just like do a meet and greet, right meet and greet stuff and get nerdy with each other. I kind of want to do like an make it fun and nerdy if we can... I want to do "bring a thing." Like if you just bring like the case of your favorite DVD, like your animated favorite animated series. Or if you just have like a Funko Pop figure that you you just love, love love, and you want to show it to everybody.
Or if you have a ticket stub of something that you went to see and you have lots of really fond memories of going to see that with your friends, then like, let's let's do a little bit of that, and anything else that you have in mind.
So as you can see, I'm keeping it pretty loose, because I've had Facebook groups before I have made a course on Facebook promotions.
And you know, I've had a lot of success with them, but I kind of want to do something different. So go to theselfemployednerd.com and join us, first of all.
And then let me know what would make the group a little bit different than you know, like.... uughgh Facebook groups. We all hate Facebook groups. Like seriously, a lot of people hate them.
But they can be a good thing. So I would love your input on that!
Okay, moving on to the weekly, I want to start offering weekly business coaching. I don't know how long I'm going to be doing this, I think it's just going to be like kind of an open office hours sort of deal, where I can help you walk through some of the places that you're getting all snagged up in your business, because let's face it, we have all invested in all of the all of the courses, all the webinars, all the coaching all the groups and everything like that.
And then we make like a beautiful plan.
And then we follow it for about like one or two weeks, and then we forget and life happens. And so I think it might actually just be a little bit more helpful to have some coaching opportunities where you can just be like, this doesn't make sense.
Like, what what am I dealing with here, and this is what I want it to be?
Can you help me make it into that?
And so I would love to help you with the strategy piece of where to take your business what to focus on for the next few weeks, and then also fall follow up with you because you know, we can make all the plans in the world. But it really won't make a difference unless you would take action on it.
And actually! That is related to a quiz that I'm making! I'll drop a little teaser on that.
I'm making a quiz. And it's like it's basically walking you through where the gaps in your business might be.
Like, you might have the best of intentions.
You might have experienced.
You might be putting yourself out there and working yourself to death on social media and you're just not getting any traction.
Or maybe you're getting traction and followers, but none of them are scheduling a discovery call.
We can talk about that. And I have a quiz that I'm working on that will like address that problem. So stay tuned for that!
Okay, so I'm business coaching, that's what I want to do with you for free until I'm saying the end of the rest of the year. I don't know. Like, I feel like a lot of things are really taking off this year.
But my project management clients have been coming in. And it's been really taking off. But I just miss teaching and leading.
So if you will, if you think that that will be helpful, then please join me and it'll be doing will be doing it via my Facebook page or the Facebook group.
So again, you can just go to the website, and you'll see it. Okay? okay.
And then, let's see, Do I have anything else for you? Oh, yeah.
Would you like to be on here? Like, honestly, I am... I'm learning. See, when I first started this podcast, I thought that I would just be easy because I have, I literally have like a backup of all these mp3 files on my phone from me just like, "Oooh! I have an idea!"
And then I record it. And it's got like a beginning a middle and an end. And it's beautiful.
And of course, I'm doing the typical thing where I'm just like overthinking everything.
And then on top of that, I'm like, I don't know, do people really want me to? Do you want me to just talk at you and tell you what to do? I feel like that's not really helpful anymore.
Like, aren't there enough business podcasts in the world telling you exactly what to do?
(And I know that this is probably the mindset thing on my part. Because maybe I'm like, it's exactly the kind of thing where you're like, Well, yeah, there are a lot of them. But I want to hear it from you, Rochelle.)
But what I'm what I'm thinking is that I might want to have like conversations with people, because there are obviously lots of different aspects of being self employed. Like the money thing, like when do you quit your job? Like, how do you know when to throw in the towel and go into a different idea that you had, like, how to talk to your family about it. You know, those kinds of things.
And I could, I don't know, I could just like get on here and start talking about it and outline it for you. And I probably will, occasionally, but I'm thinking that this needs to turn into more of a conversational sort of thing.
Where we can have a conversation between you and me about the topic that really fires you up.
Because what I've learned about everyone, all of my business friends -- (and by the way, I don't have any business friends in real life, like their. And people when I go to like networking meetings, I guess that's kind of mean, because then now I'm saying that people I meet at networking meetings are not my friends. But you know what I mean, right? Like, I feel like, I'm closer to people on my computer screen than I am with people who I meet in person, you know, and, and talk to and yell at during these networking meetings where everyone's just like talking at the same time and yelling at each other. Yeah, it's super fun. Can you tell?)
Okay, so I'm thinking that it needs to be like a conversational thing.
And everyone can just be honest, and talk about what your experience has been in building your business.
Or in trying to build your business, you can talk about like, your favorite part of being self employed, no no matter what that looks like for you at this point.
Maybe you're full time self employed.
Maybe you're like so close!!
Maybe you're like, totally NOT EVEN CLOSE and need some help.
Then we can we can talk about it. And then we can also just like kind of like dish out some good news to anyone who is considering starting a business because I found that most people who are in it, at least for like, a year, you know? (If you haven't given up on your business in a year, then you're probably onto something, and you're in it for the long haul versus other people who are like, "I started a business and it didn't make any money in the first three months. So I, I tossed it."
You know, if you've been in this for at least a year, I would say let's let's start there, like committed to your business, giving the same intro or some alternative of your usual intro when you when you introduce yourself for at least a year, then it would be really nice to have you on the show.
So are you interested in? Would you like to come on here?
And then on top of that, I can actually like kind of walk you through my process for promoting because it's really nice to have someone on the show and to be able to like create content based on our interactions and to be able to like provide promotional materials.
I guess that's just the project manager in me. I want to have all the pieces in line. And I also don't really care about doing it for myself, but if it's for someone else, then I'm like, "Oh! we should do this and this and this and this!"
So if you would like to basically be like a FREE project management clients of mine and be on the show and have a conversation with me where you're just going to be honest about something in your business that would be helpful to other people who are considering going the self employment route, then I want you to get in touch with me.
Okay?
Again, you can go to the website at www.theselfemployednerd.com and take a look at the show notes for this episode.
And, yeah, I want to hear from you. Because I feel like I can make this a little more fun for myself. And if you know... I'm in charge, so I will have to change it around if I want to.
Okay, so those are the things for today. Go back and re listen to that weekly uplift at the top of this episode. If you need it, stay encouraged, get some rest.
But also, keep in mind that not every today is going to be wonderful. And that's totally okay, right?
So do that. Also, make sure you join our Facebook group. Make sure you sign up for the weekly business coaching sessions and the Q&A office hours, that I'm going to be offering.
Also, if you want to be on the show, then let me know because I want you to be on the show. Obviously. I want that, or else I wouldn't be asking you for it already. Cool?
So this felt a whole lot better than all of my like way over-produced and not natural.
I don't know, there's just something I'm still figuring it out, you guys. I'm still figuring it out. Because I feel like podcasting just takes too much production time and planning. And I feel like there are just a lot of standards and things that I need to check off to have a podcast versus going live or just sending you an audio like this or an email newsletter.
So... still figuring that out. But I hope that you like this format where it's just me talking and going through it and not fussing too much over the details.
So let me know, okay?
And also, if you have a podcast, let me know, because I want to listen to it.
Okay, that's all for this week.
I hope that you stay encouraged. I hope that you stay in touch.
Take care of yourself and I will see you next time.
